Record at highest resolution and back it up

You may have read that the original tapes of the moon landing were erased. http://www.nzherald.co.nz/world/news/article.cfm?c_id=2&objectid=10585048

Apparently the data was relayed to earth through tracking stations in Australia and Florida then passed through a few hoops until it appeared on TV. At each step quality was lost, akin to a recording origianlly made at 96kHz/24 bit but delivered as an MP3 at low-res.

Tape was expensive 40 years ago and the original data was apparently erased and the tapes re-used. Had the original data been available today it could have been reconformed to deliver stunning pictures of the moon landing.

Think about that when you are recording especially for archive purposes and use the highest resolution plpus make sure a copy is backed up in case you need it later.
